Baby Girl has a Very Bad Day

Dis be little stray baby girl ferret. I've had a very bad day. I was found in a 4-lane highway and a lady saw a car straddle me......I was terrified and injured, so I just stayed there, very still. The lady stopped & ran out and picked me up, even though she never held a ferret & was afraid of me. She took me to her house and gave me some kitty food and water - I drank lots and LOTS of water, ate a few kibbies and went to sleep. She called a local pet shop and they said to bring me in because they knew a lady with a ferret shelter. The people at the pet store were very nice to me, they set me up in a small cage with food, water & blankies and they gave me kisses & cuddles. When the shelter mom came to get me, she saw that I am only a baby, maybe 14-16 weeks old. I had bruises on my tummy, legs and on my back & tail. And my back leg really hurt and was all swollen. Like I said, I was having a really bad day. I made a poopie and I've never seen a mom get so excited. It had interesting stuff in it dat I thought was food when I ate it.......hey, I was lost and hungry.....it was not time to be picky.It had paper and grass in it. My 2nd one was much more to her liking. She taked me to see the nice Dr Hankins. He had three band-aids on his hand and said he had kind of a rough day.......I said to him, "you and me both Dr. Hanky!!" He taked picures of my legg & body and one leg has TWO broken bones in it. He cannot so surgery though because he said it would be like putting pins in a toothpick!! He said it will have to heal on its own and that if shelter mom keeps me quiet for six weeks (good luck with that lady!!), that it will heal pretty good. It might be shorter than my other leg, but it will work OK. He gave me some medecine so it not hurt so much. Shelter mom is lookin for name suggestions for me. I'm a little dark sable girl, I was found on Preston Highway. Please don't let her name me Rhodie or Rhoda because I was on the road!! I was at the vet with that other ferret she just got - poor guy, she named him Rorschach because of the ink blot spot on his nose!! Rory gots to live with that name now!! She is also lookin for someone to maybe foster me for 6 weeks. I have to stay in a small cage and not be very active.......(this, I do not understand!!). BUT....she says it would have to be someone who understands my owner might be looking for me and if not, that I should come back to the shelter to go to da Dr. Hanky again in 6 weeks and then find a forever home. Maybe you gots a Grandma in da family who could foster me?? She says almost everyone we be sendin this e-mail to here has their limit of ferrets so if you want to foster me, you have to raise your right hand and swear on a bag of Totally Ferret that you can handle bringing me back in six weeks. Last thing be dat I be kind of expensive today......If anyone wants to make a donation to my medical fund, it be pweciated. PayPal or snail mail both be good! Sponsors Needed Desperately!

Several of our shelter babies are looking for sponsors. As a sponsor, your monthly donation will help one or more ferrets receive the medical treatment they need as well as help feed them. Some of the ferrets need help with Lupron for Adrenal Disease. Some need help with Pred. for Insulinoma. And yet others have conditions such as dwarfism and heart issues. These wees will be difficult to find homes for yet each one needs special care and attention.

For a simple monthly donation of $10 (or $1 to $1 million) you can help assure one ferret will receive the necessary medical treatment he/she needs. All we request is you send the same amount each month (again $1 to $1 million!). In exchange for your generous donation, you can choose which ferret you'd like to help. A cage tag will be hung on their home designating YOU as their sponsor. We will gladly email you photos and updates about YOUR ferret. Won't you help?

This is Sugar and she is 8 years old. Sugar suffers with Adrenal Disease and is currently receiving treatment from Dr. Hankins. She would like a sponsor to help her with Lupron treatments.






This is Gracie who is about 4-5 years old. Gracie has a foster home but really needs a sponsor to help her get adrenal surgery. She also receives monthly Melatonin implants until she can have her surgery. As a foster, she gets the advantage of living in a home with other ferrets and lots of attention. The shelter is continually responsible for ALL of her medical treatments.



This is Rory who is about 3-4 years old. Rory is new to the shelter. We believe Rory has a genetic defect called Dwarfism. With this defect he has restricted use of his back legs and unusual size and shape of other extremeties, a possible heart defect, and has a somewhat reduced mental capacity. For a ferret his age, he plays like a kit and not a normal adult ferret. But how can you resist that face?

Ferrets reach their new homes!

Thanks to a generous group of donors, a gracious volunteer and hubby loaded up their vehicle and drove across country to drop off 3 wees in their new homes. Collen is the proud new mommy of Biscuit and Flower.

Lazy Day

Big Tough Griff has decided that snuggling with a soft Care Bear

is just what is needed after a hard day of playing.

After a long, fun playtime it was time for dinner. Here, one of the big boys is so tuckered he is lying down with his face in the bowl eatting. Isn't he just adorable???

Tower of Fun!

Today some of the ferrets had a chance to play in the new Tower of Fun. Here are two of the boys just having a good time!

I'm not sure who had more fun...the ferrets playing or Jerri watching them play!
